Tennys Sandgren and his peculiar racket set-up

Tennys Sandgren was a pleasant surprise for many of us at the 2020 Australian open with his impressive game and for me with his impressive (different) racket set-up.

During his match with Fognini I noticed he was using some red tape to secure his lead tape on his racket frame, but with the close-up camera view, I was surprised to realize that the lead tape is on only one side. First I thought it might have fallen off, but further investigation leads me to believe that he prefers it that way.

I saw this before on the rackets of Feliciano Lopez, but never really give much thought to it, why it might be beneficial. Does anyone know the theory behind this, have anyone tried something similar? Let me know!
