Description
Octo Damper – Vibration Control Without Feel Loss
Most vibration dampers reduce stringbed shock by absorbing energy indiscriminately. While that can reduce discomfort, it also deadens the racket, blunts the feedback, and alters timing perception — often without players realizing it.
The Octo Damper was developed to solve that problem. It’s built for players who want to remove the noise, not the signal.
Technical Overview
-
Weight: 0.80 ± 0.02 grams
-
Material: PEBA (Polyether Block Amide)
-
Geometry: Diamond-Octagonal layout for stable positioning and controlled dispersion
-
Fit: Designed for all string patterns
-
Function: Filters low-frequency vibration (approx. 200–400 Hz) while maintaining high-frequency feedback (>1000 Hz)
Why It Works — Targeted Frequency Damping
When a ball hits the strings, it excites a range of vibrations:
The lower-frequency vibrations (approx. 200–400 Hz) created at impact are felt primarily as shock in the hand and arm. These slower, high-amplitude waves are what cause discomfort and distraction — especially on off-center contact.
In contrast, the higher-frequency signals (1000 Hz and above) carry precise information about the ball’s contact quality, timing, and feel — and are essential for clean ball-strike perception.
-
Low frequencies (200–400 Hz): cause frame shock and post-impact distractions
-
High frequencies (1000–2500 Hz): carry contact feedback, feel, and timing cues
Most dampers absorb across the full spectrum — reducing shock, but also muting feedback.
Octo Damper is different.
Thanks to its PEBA construction, it absorbs only the low-frequency energy while allowing high-frequency feel to pass through.
This happens because of PEBA’s low internal damping, measured as tan δ (loss factor):
Material | tan δ @ 10Hz | Behavior |
---|---|---|
PEBA | ~0.12 | Low damping → elastic return |
Rubber/Silicone | ~0.40–0.60 | High damping → absorbs broadly |
That means Octo Damper filters out shock — not signal.
The result is cleaner impact, better control, and preserved feel — all without shifting balance, swingweight, or energy return.
Observed Performance
Internal testing and player feedback show:
-
Approximately 30–40% reduction in shock amplitude at 250 Hz
-
No measurable effect on ball rebound speed
-
No reported degradation in timing feel or touch
-
Swingweight impact: less than 0.5 kg·cm²

Designed for Players Who Care About Details
This is not a comfort accessory. It’s a tool for players who understand the value of mass placement, vibrational tuning, and energy return — and who want to maintain a consistent feel while reducing unwanted frame noise and vibrations that reduce feel for the ball.
